| The Waikato Breast Cancer Trust (WBCT) is
a charitable Trust established in 2000 to support research and education
into breast cancer diagnosis, prevention and treatment in the Waikato
area.
The Waikato is one of the most active New Zealand
centres for breast cancer research and the Trust currently supports
more than 20 different studies/clinical trials including radiotherapy,
drug trials and new surgical treatments for breast cancer. In addition
to local studies the Waikato research team works collaboratively
with many international groups, actively participating in international
breast cancer research.
The Trust’s continued support of both the
local and international research work has ensured that women in
the Waikato have access to the latest research advances and that
New Zealand remains at the forefront of international breast cancer
research.
The Waikato is a centre for a collaborative Australasian
breast cancer research group called the Australia New Zealand Breast
Cancer Trials Group (ANZBCTG). For more information click
here to visit the ANZBCTG website. The operations office for
this group is based in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. The ANZBCTG collaborates
with a number of other international cancer research groups including
a Swiss based group called the International Breast Cancer Study
Group (IBCSG). For more information click

The National Health and Medical Research Council
Clinical Trials Centre (NHMRC CTC) based at Sydney University is
another research centre closely affiliated with the ANZBCTG. Statistical
advice is obtained and enrolment of patients in clinical trials
through the ANZBCTG is performed by staff at the NHMRC CTC. Waikato
breast cancer research staff also work directly with Sydney University
staff on two surgical trials which are co-ordinated through the
CTC. For more information click
